3Com became a Security By Design client in 1987 for the corporate
headquarters construction project. The site included ten buildings
and a parking structure.
Based on the success of that initial project, Security By
Design has created a corporate security system design for
3Com that spans the globe. Additional campuses have been successfully
completed in Chicago, Boston, Ireland, England, Israel, and
Singapore. Satellite offices are currently being added worldwide.

Security By Design
Involvement
For all these projects, Security By Design created a set
of corporate standards for access control, alarm monitoring,
and CCTV. Project work included the preparation of biddable
specification and drawings, reviewing bids, and the overview
compliance with the specifications by the successful bidder.
Even though many installation companies have been responsible
for the work, the standards have provided consistency in both
form and function, insuring consistent worldwide implementations.
Of Special Interest
Over the years Security By Design has assumed two roles:
the primary designer and keeper of the corporate security
design standards; and a support role to augment the design
and implementation of smaller security projects by 3Com's
in-house security staff.
