Aldersly Retirement Community

An elegant garden community in the Dominican area of San Rafael, Marin County providing upscale care and living support for mature retirees. The site consists of twelve buildings that contain sixty-three apartments, as well as dining rooms and social facilities, a medical facility, administrative and maintenance functions, and parking areas for staff and residents. There is staff available twenty-four hours a day to assist residents if required. The residents are for the most part are active and involved in both Aldersly and the greater San Rafael community activities. Aldersly is fully fenced on the back and sides of the site, and partially fenced along the front where a circular drive at the main entry affords access for pedestrians and vehicles. A driveway along the east side of the property provides entry for all on-site parking.

SBD conducted a security survey of the site and all of its facilities. The primary objectives for the survey were to identify facility security vulnerabilities and to recommend improvements for Aldersly's security program. Site operations and activities were observed during normal weekday periods, and at night and on weekends. A formal report was developed and submitted to the Administrator, along with an informal briefing.

Of Special Interest

Recommendations included additional protection devices and lighting enhancements for the parking areas, improved fencing for the back area of the site, and the future addition of vehicle and pedestrian entry gates for the front side of the site.
