California State Archives
Secretary of State Complex
Sacramento, CA
Description of Site
The California State Archives occupies a new, state-of-the-art
facility one block south of the State Capitol as part of a
Secretary of State office complex. The 170,000 square foot
building was designed to meet the needs of the Archives for
the next 50 years.
The California Secretary of State Building is a vast complex
encompassing one full city block. Included in this complex
are six floors of Archival Collections and the Golden State
Museum.
Security By Design
Involvement
Security By Design provided Schematic Design and Design Development
Documents to identify appropriate security technologies to
solve Card Access, Public to Private interfaces, Periphery,
and Fire Department issues. A report was produced which included
the study and recommendations for all security-related systems
under consideration.
Contract Documentation including specifications, drawings,
and detail packages were produced in the next phase of work.
Contract administration support to the project team was provided
by Security By Design to ensure that the installed work met
the system requirements as defined in the Contract Documents.
Of Special Interest
The physical security mechanism designed for protecting the
California State Constitution, while allowing public viewing
and a 3-hour fire rated, multi-story security vault are examples
of issues requiring unusual treatment.
