Washoe County Courts Complex
Reno, NV

This project involved the restoration, renovation and building of new buildings for the Washoe County Courts Complex in Reno, Nevada. This project is the first of a five-phase project planned to continue to 2016.

Security By Design was the Security provider for the ArcForm Group Team. The project included a three-story facility, a half-basement, and a future 5-story phased addition for a total build out of eight stories.

SBD engineered a complete security system for the Parking and Central Holding Areas; the Public Defender and the Justice Court Administrator; the Justice Courts/Family Courts; and the Prisoner Holding Areas.

The challenge of this project, as is the case in all courts projects, was the complexity of combining courts - where each judge has his own department and finding the right combination of who owns which rules, who is doing the administration, and who is doing the managing. These issues can sometimes be the worst hurdles that we encounter in a project.

Of Special Interest

The Holding Areas had to be treated the same as the County Jails, with all of the associated "hardening" and extra security measures.
